Thin Film Shader

This shader is now deprecated and will be removed in a future release. You should instead use Thin Film in the Standard Surface shader.

This shader reproduces the effect of thin film interference on a surface. It can be linked to the Specular or Reflection color of a Standard shader with the Fresnel option disabled (the shader does its own Fresnel calculations).

The Thin Film shader is designed for the Standard shader. It will not work correctly with the Standard Surface shader.

Min Thickness (nm)

The minimum thickness of the thin film, in nanometers.

Max Thickness (nm)

The maximum thickness of the thin film, in nanometers.

Thickness

Defines the actual thickness of the film between the specified min and max thickness values. Normally this would be something like a noise map to give some variation to the interference effect.

Medium IOR 

The refractive index of the medium surrounding the material. Normally this is set to 1.0 for air.

Film IOR

The refractive index of the medium that the thin film is made of.

Internal IOR

The refractive index of the medium below the thin film.
